The other night, while leaving a friend's house, piglet number 3 ran to the car saying it was freezing. I told her that it was about 52 degrees a good 20 degrees before freezing. She said "It is FREEZING!" (As if that would make it so). I once again explained the difference but she again ignored me and complained and yearned for the heater in the car to work quickly. I have no real sympathy because I spent 4 years (winters included) in ND and actually know what freezing is. I also know what below freezing is, and below below freezing is. So my daughter really wasn't even close. She would not do well if we go farther north, say North Carolina or Virginia, let alone ND. Also, Earthpig, who spent 6 (winters included) years in ND, says if he never sees snow again that will be fine with him. I am outvoted. I LIKE the four seasons. A true winter, and a normal summer, nothing like we get down here in the south. 98 degrees isn't summer, it is more like, well, I don't use that word, but you know what I mean. I want a nice fall where the trees have time to turn beautiful colors. A spring where you can smell the newness in the air. I WANT SEASONS. But, alas, I love Earthpig. I will stay where he wants to live and be happy, no really, I am. I have him and 2 of our 3 piglets. One has decided to leave the pen.
Well, enough, I, curiously enough, am off to the warmer climes of the islands for a week. (Don't ask me why I am leaving my nice cool climate to go back to the heat of summer I don't know.)Piglet #3 will be happy. Piglet #1 will be happy just to be off work.

Oh, yeah, the other reason I like fall so much -- all the bugs die. I guess they don't really die, cause if that were so, there would be no more bugs (boy would I be happy). Ok, i don't really mind bugs. I just really mind cockroaches. Living in the south they are part and parcel of the culture. I was told they weren't really cockroaches, "they're waterbugs" no "they're palmetto bugs". I honestly don't care their religious affiliate. I hate them either way -- you're right, low tolerance. ND never had ANY cockroaches. Maybe that is why I enjoyed it so. Guam had MANY cockroaches. They weren't as big, but they were rather devious. I had one chase me around the house once. They flew constantly. Everyone was so afraid of the snakes on Guam. I was there for 4 years I saw 2 snakes. Can't tell you how many cockroaches I saw. They are considerably more dangerous. I am sure they caused more accidents from people running screaming from them than snakes caused from snake bites. I am sure there are no statistics on that, but trust me on this one. So fall has felled, the bugs have done whatever it is that bugs do when it turns cold. I am cheering the chill. Piglet #3 is not too pleased about it. Life goes on.
